Ferrier, well known in local footballing circles, joined the club as first team coach in May of 2000, having previously been assistant manager to John Young at Brechin City. Five months later, after the resignation of Dave Baikie, Ferrier took charge for a game against Queen's Park prior to the appointment of John Brownlie. Just under four years later, Ferrier again took charge on a caretaker basis for a further two games before the appointment of Harry Cairney.
