Biography
Ian Stewart was appointed as the successor to Bert Henderson, but having taken over with the club in the relegation zone he failed in his attempts to keep us up. Stewart had two spells in his playing days at Gayfield, as well as turning out for Montrose, Forfar, Dundee United and Brechin, where he was player/ manager for two years prior to coming to Gayfield in the managers position.
Despite coming close to promotion in the 81-82 season, with only goal different keeping us from being promoted ahead of Alloa, Stewart was sacked in the November of 1983 with it looking likely the club would miss out on promotion once again. He went on to manage Montrose soon after leaving Gayfield, spending 7 years in charge of the Gable Endies.
