Biography

When the club decided it was time to appoint a full time manager again, former Hearts, Rangers, Falkirk and Dumbarton wing half was appointed 2 games before the end of the 1959-1960 season. In his two seasons at Gayfield, Prentice managed a 12th placed finish folllowed by an improved 6th placed, but he resigned in early September 1962, a few weeks after the Arbroath Town Council had refused to allocate him a house as his job was not considered to be that of a 'key worker'. After resigning, he agreed to stay on until a new manager was appointed at the end of the month.

Two months after leaving Gayfield, Prentice was appointed manager of Clyde and went on to manage Scotland for a brief spell as well as Dundee and Falkirk twice. After leaving Falkirk the second time, he emigrated to Australia where he stayed until his death in 2006.
