Arbroath didn't replace Alec Cheyne, who was full time, but instead asked long serving centre half and captain Tommy Gray to pick future teams in a part time capacity with a Wilfred Forrester acting as secretary. Gray was assisted by former club captain Chris Anderson as a scout, and their combined efforts lifted the club to mid table.
