Biography
Arbroath didn't replace Alec Cheyne, who was full time, but instead asked long serving centre half and captain Tommy Gray to pick future teams in a part time capacity with a Wilfred Forrester acting as secretary.
Gray was assisted by former club captain Chris Anderson as a scout, and their combined efforts lifted the club to mid table.
Gray resigned as manager on the 15th of March 1957 to take over at Dundee Utd, despite the fact Arbroath were several places higher in Division Two at the time. Gray spent 18 months as the manager at Tannadice before resigning and later went on to be a scout with Rangers.
