Biography

After helping previous manager Tommy Gray in a scouting role, former club captain Chris Anderson was kept on to help the committee with team selection, with Chairman Hugh Nelson quoting in the Guide after Gray left as saying "nothing will be done meantime about appointing a new manager". The club achieved a 3rd place finish in 57/58 under this arrangement, and promotion the following season as runners up to Ayr Utd. The 1st division proved a step to far, and the club were relegated after one season, but another semi final had been reached, this time in the League Cup, when Third Lanark defeated Arbroath 3-0 at Ibrox. At the end of the 59-60 season, the club decided to look at appointing another permenant manager.

After leaving Gayfield, Anderson moved into the boardroom at Pittodrie in 1967, where he had previously been a player for Aberdeen, and later become vice-chairman and is credited for playing a pivotal role in the club's success in the 70s.
