Match Report

Scottish League side Arbroath brought a strong team to the stadium to face a City team that had an unfamiliar look about it. Former players Chris Gordon and Djedi Sangare appeared with a number of other trialists as City were missing a number of regulars.

Arbroath’s Masson and Wright passed up chances early on before City’s first effort came when Trialist Bob Reid made the best of a mistake by the Arbroath defence only to see his shot blocked. A long range Jordan Hall effort had the Lichties keeper diving to prevent a goal before Arbroath opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Wright cut the ball back to Sean Simpson who beat Hogarth at close range. Arbroath went further ahead just a minute later as a mistake let Wright through with Hogarth saving from feet only for the referee to point to the penalty spot, Wright himself converting the spot kick. City reduced the visitors’ lead just after half time when Jordan Hall cut the ball back for Ross Guthrie to turn in the box and shoot past Morrison but Arbroath looked comfortable for most of the second half and scored a third in the 78th minute when they were awarded a second penalty after a foul by Sangare in the box. Hogarth did well to block Barry Sellers’ penalty kick but the ball squeezed under him and into the net.
