Hat tricks from Alan Brazil and Pat Clarke and a strike from Roddy Black demolished the 'Shire at Gayfield. Brazil scored with a centre forward header after a well flighted cross from Jay Stein on 14 minutes and doubled the lead with a strike 10 minutes later. Former Lichtie Ian Diack pulled one back for Shire but a couple of minutes later, Brazil scored his third to give Arbroath a 3-1 half time lead. Arbroath dominated the second half and Pat Clarke, who had missed several great chances in the first period, scored on 66 minutes and then on 82. Roddy Black then ran into the box 3 minutes later and fired a low shot past former Lichties keeper Derek Jackson to make it 6. Ian Diack then capitalised on a lack of concentration in the Lichties defence to pull it back to 6-2 but Pat Clarke had the last word with a wonderful volley right on time. This was an inspired performance by Arbroath with once again great commitment being shown by every player.
