The John McGlashan revival continued when Arbroath won a deserved 2-1 victory against St Johnstone at Gayfield. The Lichties found themselves a goal down on the half hour mark after the Saints capitalised on confusion in the goalmouth among the defence. The maroons however quickly dug in and began to assert themselves and levelled 7 minutes later when Pat Clarke was on hand to force the ball past Mark Paston after some pressure in the box. Into the second half the game was fairly even, though Arbroath looked the more composed of the sides moving forward, creating several good chances including a great effort by Hugh Davidson. Alan Brazil and Pat Clarke were linking up well as a front pairing, inspired by persistent runs from Millar, Stein and McMullen. In the 90th minute, with a penalty shoot out looming, Alan Brazil hit a wonder strike from well outside the box which rocketed into the top corner to win the game. This was another fine Arbroath performance with everyone in the team showing great commitment.
