Arbroath lost out to a very strong Dundee side this evening as the Championship winners secured a win thanks a goal by Zach Robinson in the 36th minute in-front of 2160 supporters. Arbroath lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation with Gaston in goal, Scott Stewart playing at left back, Steele at right back with Captain O'Brien and Little, with Stowe on the right, Dow on the left and Gold and Allan in the middle with McKenna playing the number 10 role behind Leighton McIntosh. Jacobs, Norrie, Baldé, Turan and Adams were joined on the bench by a new trialist, but one who knows Scottish Football very well.
Scott Tiffoney had the first real half chance in the 10th minute when his long range shot just curled past Gaston's post, but Mark Stowe wasn't far away just 6 minutes later with a free kick from 25 yards. Zak Rudden had a dipping shot from 18 yards in the 20th minute but it was an easy catch for Gaston. Stowe continued to impress and won a corner after surging down the wing in the 29th minute. Scott Allan played an incredible pass to Leighton McIntosh in the 29th minute but the Dundee defender just managed to get a toe to the ball as McIntosh tried to cut back. Stowe again had a free kick from distance in the 35th minute but the wall managed to block the free kick but Michael McKenna hit the loose ball but his shot was over the bar. Just seconds later and Dundee opened the scoring. Rudden found Robinson who lobbed Gaston to make it 0-1.3 minutes later and Rudden was through on goal but Gaston did well to save. With 2 minutes left of the first half, Stowe came running forward and cut into the box where he was tripped by Jack Wilkie. Leighton McIntosh placed the ball on the spot but his 12 yard strike was saved by Jon McCracken. Arbroath had a good 90 second spell of balls into the box and pressure after retaining possession but couldn't get the goal.
HT - Arbroath 0-1 Dundee
Arbroath made 4 changes at the break as João Baldé, Turan, Jess Norrie and Trialist 34 all came on with David Gold, Leighton McIntosh, Scott Allan and Mark Stowe leaving play. The formation also changed slightly as Arbroath moved to a 4-3-3. João Baldé made a surging run forward from his own half in the 52nd minute but his shot was deflected wide. Derek Gaston saved a shot in the 59th minute from Robinson saving with his legs then made an even better save in the 73rd minute as he pushed a Tiffoney effort away for a corner from a tight angle. Trialist 34 was showing his pace and he had a great run forward in the 77th minute winning a corner kick, but the corner was easily cleared away. Cammy Kerr had a chance for a goal in the 84th minute but his shot was well over Gaston's bar.
FT - Arbroath 0 - 1 Dundee
Another good work out for the Lichties with Steele and Stowe settling in well and playing well. Another good 45 minutes from Scott Allan with 3 outstanding passes and lots of tackling. More minutes for Kenan Dunnwald-Turan as he gets up to pace with Scottish Football and a second half debut officially for Norey who looks hungry and not afraid to tackle.
