Biography
Matthews previously played for Middlesbrough, Wishaw Thistle, Kelso and Peebles Rovers before he moved to Arbroath due to his work as a gardener. He was signed, and played one Northern League match against Montrose in late November 1912, but a fairly scathing report was given in the Arbroath Herald and he didn't feature for the club again.
