Steele was signed from Cowdenbeath in exchange for Lindsay Kydd and Derek Hyslop in March 1982. He spent just over two seasons at Gayfield, and was a regular in the side for the majority of his time at the club, before being allowed to leave at the end of the 1983-84 campaign.
