Ken Malcolm

Ken was signed from Aberdeen St. Clements in July 1949, and he was initially used as a right winger in his first few games at Gayfield before dropping back to play in the right back position, where he had previously played regularly with his junior club, and occasionally filling in at left back. In his second season at Gayfield Ken received a bad injury early on in a Forfarshire Cup game against Dundee in late August which resulted in him missing large spells of the season and after getting an operation in the New Year he completely missed the final three months of the campaign.

During the 1951-52 season, Ken only missed one game, initially starting as our right back before switching over to left back in early autumn and continuing there for the rest of the campaign. Now seen as our regular left back, he played most of his game there the following season up until early March 1953 when once again an injury curtailed his campaign. Early on the following campaign he began being used as a centre forward, spending the first few months of the season in this position before once again dropping back to the left back slot. Having continued to impress throughout the year, Ken was signed by Ipswich Town in late May 1954 for £2000, a deal which included further add-ons depending on how he did, and he would end up spending nearly a decade at Portman Road prior to his retirement from football.
