Biography

Fernie was signed from Newburgh in November 1956 after an initial trial, and he was initially a backup for our front line before beginning to appear reguarly at inside forward in the New Year and he was an absolute revelation for the team in the second half of the campaign, averaging nearly a goal a game. He continued his superb scoring record the following campaign as the team just missed out on promotion to Division One. In mid October 1958, with Fernie having again made a superb start to the 1958-59 season, he was sold to Doncaster Rovers for £8000.
