Gillespie was signed from Arniston Rangers in November 1960 and he spent two and a half seasons at the club as a regular centre forward with an excellent scoring record. After scoring 24 goals in 34 appearances during the 1962-63 season he made a transfer request prior to the start of the following campaign and he was allowed to leave for Falkirk in August 1963 for a fee of £2000.
