John McGlashan

Biography

John initially joined the club on a 3-month loan deal from Dundee in August 1998, before signing for Ross County later that season. John initially joined the club on a 3-month loan deal from Dundee in August 1998, before signing for Ross County later that season. In the summer of 2000, he decided to return to Gayfield permanently and had two hugely successful seasons, starting off with a promotion before an excellent first campaign in the First Division in which relegation was successfully avoided. The following season was a poor one for Arbroath, with an injured John missing a large spell of the season but he returned and played nearly every game of the following campaign and helped keep our place in the Second Division. In his final season at Gayfield he missed large parts of the campaign due to further injury problems, and he left that summer to become manager of Dundee Violet, before returning to Gayfield later that year as our manager.

John very sadly passed away in January 2018 aged 50 after battling Motor Neurone Disease, and he is extremely well remembered not just for his footballing ability, but for the fantastic person he was.
