Timeline

  • Date of Birth

Greig was born on this date in Dundee.

  • Having travelled the length and breadth of Scotland - well to Dumfries, Stranraer and Arran in the middle of the fuel crisis (cost 93p per litre in Arran) and seeing the Lichties go out of the Bells Challenge Cup in the process I had plenty of time for reflection as I travelled the miles. Last Saturday saw Jon Crawford having a stinker against Forfar in his first first-team game of the season and Tuesday saw John McAulay look sadly pace-less against Stranraer as their nippy forwards punished our "tired" defence badly. It was a joy to watch, if you were a Stranraer supporter, as Rowe and McAulay got ripped apart in the first half which also saw a certain Tommy King play like a player with (bad) attitude. Why he was never substituted is beyond belief - how could the manager stand and watch him, right in front of the bench, lose tackles, lose the ball, not make any effort to recover the situation and continually blame his fellow players? On the positive side, I must admit that Iain Good had an absolutely superb game at left half and his attitude reminded me of Scott Peters never say die approach. The star of the team was however Big Jim Mercer whom the local supporters were raving about in the pub afterwards. To finish back on the negative side, our attack lacked any pace or width and seldom troubled the home defence and it was only when Heenan was introduced late on in the game that we looked creative.

  • First Goal - Alloa 3 - 2 Arbroath

After missing out on a Valentine’s date to remember, Arbroath fans were given a romantic moonlight evening in Alloa for a vital match for any hope of retaining first division status. The sight of a returning John Cusick on a cold, but still evening cheered the large travelling support.

  • Last Appearance - Arbroath 3 - 2 Stirling

Arbroath hot-shot Gavin Swankie hit top form to send out a come-and-get-me signal to full-time clubs. The out-of-contract winger was the star of the show in what looks likely to have been his last game for the Gayfield club.
