-
A youthful Arbroath side gave a spirited account of themselves at Gayfield last night but eventually crashed out of the Forfarshire Cup to a vastly more experienced Forfar. The visitors took the lead on 12 minutes when Paul Shields’ header wasn’t cleared by the Arbroath defence and Mathu King pounced from close range. Forfar went two up just four minutes later when Martin Maher beat Timmy Woodcock from a Shields cross. Five minutes from the break, Paul Tosh made no mistake from the edge of the six-yard box. Ten minutes into the second half, Arbroath pulled one back when Greg Kirk headed down for Steven Cook to score at the second attempt. Forfar settled things shortly after the hour mark when King headed home a Paul Lunan cross.
