Timeline

  • Date of Birth

Tommy was born on this date in Johnstone.

  • Signed For Arbroath

Queen of the South legend Bryce signed in the summer of 1999 after a brief spell back in Dumfries following an unsuccessful spell as player/ manager at Partick Thistle. Bryce was a popular figure at Gayfield and featured most weeks in the starting 11 during the 99-00 season before leaving early into the 00-01 season to become player/ coach at Stranraer.

  • The first home friendly of the season had been turned into one of the semi finals of the 1999/2000 Forfarshire Cup but the importance of the match had no effect on my attendance as I was going anyway. Following an amazing January like hurricane of a night on Wednesday (it was too stormy today for the passengers on the QE2 to get off and enjoy the delights of Peterheid) the weather had abated as I bought a mealie pudding supper en route to Gayfield which ended up in the bin outside Tutties. The crack in Tutties was about whether or not "Fred" would or had signed for the Lichties, Dougie Scott had signed for Montrose on their third offer of allegedly £6k, East Fife had wanted over £40k for Moffat (Baikie’s striker target), Steve Mallan of QOS and Scott Taylor of Montrose had been Dave’s other summer targets and how Neil Thomson had said that he was not good enough to be a Second Division player.

  • Former Thistle manager Tommy Bryce turned the game for Arbroath to secure victory over a luckless Jags outfit.

  • This match was held up for half an hour due to the Castlecary roadworks. Very few Accies fans made it (under 100).

  • Last Appearance - Stranraer 3 - 2 Arbroath

A good handful of the Lichties supporters had made the long trek to Stranraer to watch the quarter final of the Challenge Cup. With the homesters having scored 4 away on Saturday and Arbroath having let in 4 at home, the form book favoured Stranraer. Well that’s how it turned out, but not as emphatically as it looked at one stage.
