After a poor start to the 1998-99 season, 'Dibble' was signed from Montrose in early October, and his goals played a huge part in keeping us in the division, and he continued to score into the next season cementing himself as a fans favourite. In his final season, McGlashan found regular game time harder to come by and as we won promotion to the First Division, he moved on to Elgin City.

Now into the second quarter of the season and the lure of the cheap entrance into Gayfield had turned the clock back to the heady days when the car from Stonehaven was full for the journey down to Gayfield. Well maybe it wasn’t the cheap fitba but the fact that, due to the Tattie Holidays, the Stonehaven under 14s were not playing today thus allowing the hatchet midfielder, Martin, to return to Gayfield along with Shona who was back from Edinburgh for the weekend and had nothing better to do this afternoon. The final place in the car was taken by the missus who was not attracted by the cheap price but was going to see my mother who was also not attracted by the £5 entrance.

Having spent a fine new year in North Berwick, we headed up the road, overtaking another two cars with the Lichties stickers on their back window, towards Gayfield for the third of our local derby League matches against Forfar (the second, replayed, local derby Cup match against Montrose is next Saturday). The first derby match against the Loons this season, some four months ago, saw us come back from being 3 nil down at half time to level the scores only to see our country cousins come back and score a late winner in their 4-3 victory. Our second match, at Forfar, coincided with Barry Sellars first match for the Loons when he signed on a "free" from Clyde and in a scrappy match we ran out winners by the single goal on a day which featured Scott Peters throw his rattle out of the cot and whilst still registered at Gayfield Scott will never play for the Club again under John Brownlie (again allegedly). Approaching Gayfield we see the still not fit Stevie Florence running down the Infirmary Brae and round onto the Low Common where, looking knackered, he slows down to a slow plod.
After the unsurpassed joy of last Saturday, it was strange to wake up on a Saturday not worrying about the Arbroath game that afternoon. We had been forewarned that Brownlie, quite rightly, would field a lot of youngsters today. In my first match report I’d urged Brownlie to use the young guys and the development of them in the first team has been part of the good things promotion has brought. Dibble was also in line for a starting place for his last game. It also seems fitting that in a town where Tate + Lyle have a factory and Blacks make marquees that Steve Kirk was set to make a cameo appearance. Glorious sunshine covered Scotland as we headed down to Cappielow, Clydebank’s foster home.
