Biography

Milne started playing football for Battlefield at juvenile level before playing in the juniors with Ardenlea, followed by 2 years with Albion and then Alpine.

Milne featured during the 1896-97 season while a junior player for Alpine, and he joined ourselves permanently in the summer of 1897. He became a prominent member of our forward line over the next seasons and despite missing several months of the 1899-00 season due to living and working in Glasgow, Milne once again showed his skills from January onwards of that season upon his return to the town.

In August 1900, just prior to the new season starting, Milne joined Dundee Wanderers alongside teammate John Sinclair. After a season at Clepington Park he returned to Arbroath for the 1901-02 season and despite missing the first few months of the 1902-03 season he was signed on again during the season and managed to make 5 competitive appearances for the club.

Milne wasn't offered a new contract for the following season and in August 1903 he signed for Leith Athletic, spending one season there before signing for Forfar Athletic for the 1904-05 season. As late as March 1909 Milne was still playing, turning out for a local junior select against Rangers in a friendly.

As a player, Milne was described in newspaper reports as good dribbler and tackler with a sure shot, as well as being short and light and reguarly beating defenders with his nimbleness and pace.
