Biography

David played locally for Albion Athletic and Arbroath Hibs and he appeared for the club on various occasions as an amateur prior to signing professionally in the summer of 1902, having impressed enough in the last few games of the 1901-02 season. David played locally for Albion Athletic and Arbroath Hibs and he appeared for the club on various occasions as an amateur prior to signing professionally in the summer of 1902, having impressed enough in the last few games of the 1901-02 season. He began to establish himself in the team during the second half of the following season and would go on to become one of our main forward players until he left the club in the summer of 1905 to join Forfar Athletic.

After only a year at Station Park, 'Dot' as he was commonly known, returned in 1906 and over the coming years he barely missed a game for the club - at the AGM in April 1910 it was reported he had played in 158 out of 161 matches since his return, and one of the games he missed was due to being picked for Forfarshire duty.

It was at the start of his second season back at the club that he started being used in a more withdrawn role and he found himself playing as a right half. Over the years he would feature in a whole variety of positions for the club, even turning out as a goalkeeper in a friendly. At the start of the 1908-09 season, he was made club captain.

David was given a benefit match against Dundee Hibs on 24th August 1910, but unfortunately he spent quite a while out the team due to injury later that year before coming back in November, beginning to feature in a forward position again as he had done in his younger years.

During the 1911-12 campaign he switched back to a right half role and he continued in this more withdrawn role over the next three years before in the summer of 1914 when he finally left the club over 16 years after his first competitive appearance. He would go on to join Montrose in August 1914.
