John Gallagher

‘Gall’ was signed from Yoker Athletic in June 1989 by John Young, and he initially spent two and a half seasons at the club before being allowed to leave for Albion Rovers in late November 1991 by Walter Borthwick, with John having lost his left back place in the team to Craig Martin.

Almost five years after his initial departure, John was re-signed by John Brogan in a swap deal which saw Willie Watters and Lee Gardner move to Albion Rovers. His first season back at Gayfield saw the club finish rock bottom of the Third Division, but the arrival of Dave Baikie as manager saw an upturn in fortunes and John was a regular in the 1997-98 side which won promotion. He continued as our regular left back, and sometimes left midfielder, up until late March 2000 when he moved on to Queen of the South. After a brief spell with the Dumfries side, he spent time playing for East Fife, Queen’s Park and Elgin City before retiring from playing.
