Derek Jackson

Derek was signed from Viewfield Amateurs towards the end of the 1983-84 campaign by George Fleming, and he featured in the last two games of the season. He started the following season as our first-choice keeper, and he continued in this position for the majority of the mid to late 1980s. He did however miss games due to his job with the prison service, especially during 1988, where he was completely unavailable for almost the entire calendar year.

Midway through the 1990-91 season he lost his place as number 1, with manager Ian Gibson preferring to go with youngster Derek Balfour. He ended up being transfer listed and despite coming back into the team in April 1991, playing in Gibson’s last two games in charge, he left the club at the end of the campaign.

In early August 1993 he was brought back to the club by Danny McGrain, and he was once again our regular keeper throughout the 1993-94 season. Early on the following season new manager George Mackie brought Gordon Dunn to the club, and Derek lost his starting place. He made just four appearances after the end of October, and he was allowed to leave the club at the end of the 1994-95 season.
