Biography

Dinnie, whose father was one of the founding members of Arbroath Strathmore, played locally for St. Thomas and had a trial with Rangers in February 1909 before turning out for ourselves in a Northern League fixture against St. Johnstone in late April 1909. That summer he signed for Dundee A and after a year there he moved to Huddersfield, where he converted from a forward into a back/ half back.

In the summer of 1913, with family ties still in Arbroath, Dinnie moved back to the town and signed up at Gayfield. He captained the club at times during the 1914-15 season and was a regular fixture in the half back line up until competitive league football ceased for ourselves in the summer of 1915.

Dinnie served his country during WW1 and was in Egypt up until mid February 1920, when he returned to Arbroath.

In September 1922, Dinnie set sail for USA where he lived out his life.
